Jim Russell

January 29, 1951 – April 28, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jim Russell announces his peaceful passing at home on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the age of 74.

Jim was the beloved husband of Roxanne Russell, his devoted partner of 51 years, and a loving Father to Robin Trottier and Melanie Da Costa. He was the proud Grandfather of Jordan Trottier, Jessy Trottier, Landon Da Costa, and Kyra Da Costa, and a caring father- in-law to Marc Trottier and Brian Da Costa. Jim found great joy in watching his grandchildren grow, cheering them on in their sports and celebrating their accomplishments. Nothing made him more proud than seeing them succeed.

He will be deeply missed by his siblings: Larry (Donna) Russell, Roger (Linda) Russell, and Marilyn (Ken) Bolton; his brothers-in-law Tom Saunders and Fern Pothier; as well as his extended family, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Herb and Irene Russell, and his sisters, Anita Saunders and Janice Pothier. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Jim and his wife moved to Ridgeway in 2002. He touched countless lives with his kind heart and was loved by everyone who knew him.

Known for his remarkable mechanical skills, Jim worked for many years as a heavy-duty mechanic at Inco in Sudbury and later as an operator at Inco/Vale in Port Colborne. He also served as a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Valley East Fire Department and was the “Mr. Fix- It” at home. As his favorite t-shirt said: “If Poppa can’t fix it, no one can.” Jim found peace in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, hunting, and spending time on the lake aboard his pontoon boat at Sugarloaf Marina, especially in the company of his wife.

His strength, generosity, and quiet wisdom will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him. He was truly one of a kind. At Jim’s request, cremation has taken place. No formal service will be held. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
