Larry Donald Haig

July 16th, 1951 - April 5th, 2025

Gathered here today, we celebrate the life of Larry Donald Haig, a man whose heart was as big as his laughter was infectious. Born on July 16, 1951, in Windsor, Ontario, Larry graced us with 73 years filled with love, faith, and humor before he passed away on April 5, 2025, in Fort Erie, Ontario to join the Lord he so deeply believed in.

For Larry, family was his crowning achievement. He was a devoted husband to his beloved and dedicated wife, Deborah who was the love of his life, and a proud father to Barbara, Roxanne, Ashley, Brianna, Tina (Les), Melisa (Darrin), Anthony (Breanne), Michael (Sabrina), and Albert (Lydia) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who were his pride and joy. His love for his children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren were immeasurable.

Larry was involved in bringing two Turkish families into Canada whom he also embraced as his children and grandchildren. Yasimine (Baris) and children, Nazan (Irfan) and children and of course Beyhan.

Preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Raymond, and his siblings Ronald and Sharon, Larry is survived by his brother Robert (Wilma), brother Kenneth (Debbie), sisters Linda, Kathy (Bill), Nancy (Bruce), and Noreen.

Larry’s involvement in his community was a testament to his deep faith and generous spirit. As a key member of the “For the Least of Them Ministries” he served as an elder, and occasionally taught Bible studies and delivered sermons.

Larry was a man who wore many hats and wore them all with grace, humor, and an unyielding faith.

Larry was a man of many talents and achievements. Larry’s life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and service. Larry had a knack for excelling in whatever he put his mind to. As a child, he found joy in playing baseball, a sport that taught him teamwork and perseverance. His skills later translated into a successful career as a top salesman, where his charm and wit won him many accolades.

But Larry’s accomplishments didn’t stop there. In the later years of his life, his heart led him to ministry work, supporting children in Africa, funding feeding programs and individually supporting children. Larry also aided those in need in India and the Philippines. Larry’s compassion extended to mentoring young men, helping them overcome addictions and find a path to a brighter future. Two young men Larry really made a huge impact with are Chris and Aaron to whom he loved greatly.

To his family and friends, Larry was the rough-tough guy with the biggest heart. His humor, often laced with sarcasm, brought life to every conversation, Larry had often played the role of the class clown to bring smiles to those around him.

Beneath his tough exterior lay a gentle heart, which he readily shared with those he loved.

His family and friends will dearly miss him, but they take comfort in the words of Scripture, “Absent from the body and present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:1-8), knowing they will one day be reunited with him., we hold on to the laughter, love, and memories he shared with us, confident that his spirit lives on in our hearts.

I would like to take a moment not of silence, but to have each of you look around at the faces in this room, mom wanted me to mention Larry was always saying that he would be alone in this time the end of his life. And yet we all are here to honour and celebrate a man who had an impact in our lives in one way or another. What I think we should all take from this is, you never know the impact you are having in a person's life, who you’re affecting and how.

So, lets believe in who we are and step confidently into our everyday, reaching out to one another in love and compassion as Larry showed in his life. As we gather to remember and honor him, We hold on to the hope and assurance that we will see Larry again, in a place where laughter and love never end. Until we meet again, we all will always love you Larry.
